demog.berkeley.edu now handled by central campus
One of the big changes for 2023 is that Demography is mostly out of the email business, and our demog.berkeley.edu domain name is handled by campus IT and google. We still maintain a server to handle automated emails and to maintain forwarding to accounts which do not have a Cal address, e.g. visiting scholars.
If you have an account at the Demography Lab then you also have an associated email address: username@demog.berkeley.edu. The reason for this address is not so that you can have yet another email address to use but rather so that we can let you know about things like server shutdowns and the availability of free beer. In other words, while the addresses exist, the infrastructure for sending and receiving email do not. When your account is initially setup, we configure it it forward any mail sent to username@demog.berkeley.edu which is usually an alias for your current @berkeley.edu address.
